Who wasn't affected by September 11, 2001? Pretty much every one I know in real life was.

A new story was released today about one man's experience taking a road trip during this fateful time named Dissolute Kinship: A 9/11 Road Trip in the form of a well written long essay.

It was composed by a Canadian citizen who had planned on driving cross country at this time to celebrate a milestone birthday and sort some personal discoveries that occurred that year. He was completely unaware of what was about to unfold. Travel with him back into time to this fateful tragedy and see it through his eyes.

David Antrobus has a beautifully captivating way of creating images in your mind while you are reading. He strings words together like fine pearls are strung on a necklace. You won't be disappointed.

Fortunately his story was released just in time for the 10th anniversary of the tragic event.

You don't need a Kindle device to be able to read the book. Amazon offers several free downloads for their Kindle books which include smartphones and PCs. On the right hand side of the screen when viewing the book, under where you click "Buy Now", are several platforms to choose from, or click HERE.

Luscious Tea Bars

from Occident / King Midas flour Collectors Bake Book:

1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup half & half
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 cup King Midas flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups coconut
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Cream together butter & sugar, then stir in remaining ingredients. Spread in greased 15 x 10 pan. Bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown.

Hot Healing Drink for the Winter

It's freezing here today, only 16F at noon! Hot chocolate bothers my tummy, so I thought I'd post a different hot drink that I adore and it has healing properties to boot. It is rumored to help you feel better when you have the flu as well or a chill you just can't get out of your bones.

1 cup milk ~ any kind. I have used soy, rice, almond, cow, whatever you have on hand and like.
1 TBSP ground ginger
1 TBSP ground cinnamon
honey to taste

What I do is heat the milk (I prefer on the stove but you can certainly do it in the microwave as well). Add the spices either before or during the heating process. Pour a bit of honey in the mug you're going to use, then pour the hot milk over it so it melts thoroughly.

Gwen from JoinRats happened to notice a picture I had taken of our own Oliver yawning, and because of this lucky shot, he is now on her wonderful and informative website! This moment, right after naptime, was captured just as he was in mid yawn and happened to loll his tongue out, getting a perfect glimpse into his little mouth (thankfully I wasn't taking pictures with my camera phone or it would have been all burry! lol) and you can see in extraordinary detail his healthy teeth, tongue, and flaps in his mouth. One of my rats, which I thought was a PEW, changed colors in the past few weeks!

Take a look at these pictures,,, he used to be pure white as a baby. Now he's got darker spots above his nose & around the base of his tail. Siamese or Himalayan possibly???

Here he is as a baby,,, see, no color. And no, this doesn't wash off. lol

Looks like they've come up with another tourist attraction for the Lake Wallenpaupack Area. I think I might actually take a ride into town to check it out. They're calling this one the first annual... so I'm sure there is another planned for next year already.

A very cooperative snail we found in the yard one day.

I still cannot get over the quality shots I got out of that automatic Canon digital camera. The detail in this one is fantastic in the original version of the photo, and the colors / effect was exactly what I was going after. This was done in natural lighting right in the backyard.
